Traditional remedy or use: Fruit was dried and eaten. Roof thatch, baskets, brushes and other implements were made from leaves. Native Americans used is as a diuretic, sedative and anti-inflammatory; Also used to treat asthma, colds, coughs, bronchitis, diarrhea, headache and prostate ailments.

Modern remedy or use: Possible treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Comments: Possible hormonal actions
